Girly Stuff
We just wanted to take a second to send out a big thank you to the people who help us look and feel our best.
Steve Anstey (Karen’s hair) & Cindy Hudson (My hair) – They both work at Salon ICONS in downtown St. John’s. They are both fantastic, creative people who go above and beyond for us every time.
Wade McLaughlin owns a boutique-clothing store in downtown St. John’s called August and Lotta. Whenever we have a big event or a special occasion, Wade always takes the time to make sure we look our best. This store is so trendy and always up to date with the latest styles.
I used to have an issue with my nails, especially on my right hand, when I strummed my guitar. If I played too hard, without fail I would really hurt one of them. It got to the point where I was nervous of my technique. I found band-aids were starting to interfere big time with my sound.
So, before I went after a band-aid endorsement, my best friend Tracie told me about Brisa nails, which I have been using for years now. They give me peace of mind when I’m playing. I also love the way they make the finger picking stuff sound.
Daphne Hammond at NU Image in Mount Pearl does an exceptional job for me. She understands I need to wear my nails really short so they’re out of the way for guitar playing. She also keeps me so entertained with her fascinating stories about her crazy adventures and her points of view on things. She never disappoints me where her sense of humor is concerned.
One year for Christmas, Perry gave Karen and me a pair of earrings each. He told us he bought them from a woman, Chrysta Collins, he worked with who was just starting a jewelry company called Spicy Cat Designs. We loved it so much that we went and had a meeting with her and have been loyal costumers of hers ever since.
We wore her jewelry in our photo shoot for “Lessons Learned”.
For “Lessons Learned” we were lucky enough to have our first cousin Cara Hayes available to style our hair for the photo shoot. She works at the Hair Force Salon and Spa in Mount Pearl. She did an amazing job.
Cara and her older sister Bonnie were like our sisters when we were growing up. We did everything together. It was really cool to have the littlest of the sisters styling our hair.
